On 17th August 2010, the Youth Olympic Games Cycling took place at Tampines Bike Park for the first time. In the Junior Women's Cross Country final, our very own Singapore cyclist, Nur Nasthasia Nadiah Abdul Nazzeer came in 22nd out of 32 cyclists for the race.
Even though only a third or a quarter of the seats were taken up, everyone there was cheering enthusiasically not only for Singapore but also many other countries. Many used the clapping sticks to cheer the cyclists on.
Czech Republic’s cyclist, Karolina Kalasova finished the race with a time of 46:58. Linda Indergand from Switzerland then came in second in 47:06, approximately eight seconds later while Canadian Kristina Laforge managed to get third place with a total time of 49:22.
In the Junior Men’s Cross Country final, Singapore’s Daniel Koh managed to complete three out of seven laps, finishing in 30th place out of 32 cyclists. Columbia’s Jhonnatan Botero won the gold medal with the time of 58:42, while Andrea Righettini from Italy came just behind him . Belgium’s Laurens Sweeck managed to get third place.
Through months of continuous training for the cyclists, they finally had a chance to participate in the Youth Olympic Games, even though they didn't win, I still think that they gave in their best. Given that they did alot of training before the games.
East Springians should be like the cyclists, pursuing their dreams, not giving up when you already did it halfway.
