Racial Harmony Day is created for us to commemorate the Racial Riots that happened on the 21st July 1964. It is also created for us to remember our past mistakes and make sure that we do not repeat them.
This year, East Spring Secondary have again organised a week full of activites. On Monday morning, the pledge was recited in Chinese, many of of my classmates thinks that it is fun as this is the first time they recited the Singapore pledge in other languages. During assembly, there was a dance performance by different races from different dance groups. It was an interesting performance that many enjoyed.
On Thursday, there will be a charity bazaar by the secondary twos. The secondary twos will be selling different food specialties from different races, to show that Singapore is a multi-racial country and that we respect one anothers race.
We should always remember Racial Harmony and understand why we need to know the causes so that history will not repeat itself One wrong move and the whole country will suffer the consequences. Therefore, we must be grateful and cherish what we have today.
